The first preliminary round of the 2008 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest was held on Saturday in Arnold, Missouri. This is Arnold's second year as a preliminary round.

An estimated 800 attended the evening session, which followed a preliminary session in the afternoon that drew a somewhat smaller crowd.

Max Pellicano: The King of mimicry

French-Italian Elvis impersonator Max Pellicano Pellicano’s show, Elvis to the Max, is being taken to Kuala Lumpur and it's not his first show there..

"Born in Monaco, Pellicano spent his early years in New York City. Like all self-respecting Elvis impersonators, he remembers vividly his introduction to Elvis Presley.

“I was six, and my brother played Hound Dog and All Shook Up about a thousand times. I was all shook up, I can tell ya!”

UK's most successful Elvis Presley impersonator - LEE 'Memphis’ King

Lee "Memphis"King was the British finalist in The World's Greatest Elvis competition and has previously been voted the number one Elvis tribute at Canada's Collingwood Festival. He's in concert this Sunday in Liverpool, England.

But poor Lee's whole interview seems to focus on the King's diet rather than Lee's talent. Here's an excerpt.. interesting approach:

“One thing is for sure, although I try and imitate Elvis Presley in as much detail as I possibly can, I don't follow his diet. I try to follow a healthy lifestyle and work out a lot, even when I am on tour.

'Elvis' Shows Up at Kentucky Court Drunk

Oh well, if you're going to go to court, you may as well do it in style..

"NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) — One central Kentucky Elvis Presley impersonator may be singing "Jailhouse Rock" after showing up for court drunk and dressed like Presley.A Jessamine County District Court judge says 64-year-old David Blaisdell of Lexington must spend three days in jail for contempt of court. Blaisdell was wearing sunglasses and dressed in a rhinestone-studded shirt with a scarf draped around his neck when he was sentenced."

Elvis impersonator Brian Martin

I love to cover all sorts of news on Elvis impersonators - like this article from the Hartford Advocate which says:

"Appropriately attired in a white jumpsuit, Martin as Elvis was phenomenal and sounded great. He was a one-man show, working the sound system and adjusting disco lights in between belting out favorites from "Hound Dog" to "Unchained Melody." The dance floor stayed crowded and although enthusiasts hounded him for attention all night, Martin never let his energy level sag. Even when a birthday cake arrived at the table behind us and we overheard him incredulously ask, "Another one?" as he left the stage to serenade the recipient."

What a great wrap for Brian - a true professional no doubt!
