And Just What Would Elvis Say?

Keep an eye out for this documentary in an upcoming film festival where five budding contenders needed to conceptualize, shoot and edit a slick digital short with a minimal budget and a four-week deadline.

Daniel Watts, director of programming for event thinks "it was nicely captured by a contender who traveled around polling Elvis impersonators, in an entry titled "What Would Elvis Say?"

Elvis impersonator goes for world record

Canada's Suresh Joachim is attempting to break the Guinness world record for non-stop Elvis impersonation at a shopping mall.

This is one positive thinking guy and it's all for a good cause.

"At 8 a.m. yesterday in Brampton's Shoppers World mall, Joachim, wearing a white suit with black and gold trim, an extravagant wig and sunglasses, launched into "Heartbreak Hotel." He hopes to keep going until 3 p.m. tomorrow, a total of 55 hours, shattering the existing record of 43 hours, 11 minutes."

According to the rules, Joachim has a time limit in which to sing each song.

"Trying to learn them has been the most difficult part," he said in a phone interview before his marathon. "

Elvis impersonator record broken in Parkes

I was interested to read that that this Elvis impersonator world record was broken at the Australian Elvis festival.

Up until now, Canada's Collingwood Elvis Festival had held the record for the most Elvis impersonators singing at once being 78.

But in Parkes, Australia, 147 "men in big black hair, sunglasses and jumpsuits smashed that record when they delivered a simultaneous rendition of Love Me Tender in Parkes yesterday."

More on Australian Elvis impersonator event

Many of these Elvis impersonators caught a train to Parkes in their jumpsuits. What a sight.Thought you might like to read a U.K. report on the event. Here's an excerpt:

"There are Elvis lawn bowls and golf challenges, as well as a cheeseburger eating contest, which pays homage to one of the American singer's favourite snacks. There is also an Elvis-themed Gospel church service."

Outback Australian Elvis impersonator event

There are even  Elvis impersonators in outback Australia.

A town called Parkes in the state of New South Wales hosts this annual event which is growing year by year.

The article says:

"The Parkes Elvis Festival is held every January to coincide with Elvis' birthday on January 8.

It began in 1993 as a small, one-night event but has grown into a five-day festival expected to draw record crowds of 8000 to the drought-stricken town.

The festival has more than 80 events, including concerts, a gospel church service, street parades and a cheeseburger eating competition."
