Fifth Annual Porthcawl Elvis Festival Best Ever!

Thousands of visitors from all over the UK, Europe, the USA and Canada stampeded Bridgend for the Fifth Annual Elvis Festival recently. This story says..

"The first 'Elvis' I spot is at Bridgend railway station. He's sporting a shabby black jumpsuit slashed to the waist and a matted quiff, and is standing outside the ticket office drinking Special Brew, chain-smoking and muttering obscenities into his mobile phone.

The next - sleek and dark and dapper in a crisp GI uniform - is chatting politely to a couple of pensioners in a petrol station forecourt.

Ten minutes later, as we drive into Porthcawl, they're everywhere. Thin Elvises, fat Elvises, Hawaiian Elvises, knackered-looking Elvises, swarthy Elvises, bickering Elvises . . . all hurrying along the seafront towards the Seabank Hotel and a big, wobbly-lettered sign that reads: 'Elvis is Here! September 26-28."

As usual we discover the hotels were fully booked and the  Brentwood Hotel changed its name to the Heartbreak Hotel in honour of the festival. Hot on the heels of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis, ,this is said to be the largest of its kind in Europe.

It is reported that the organizer believes that this is the biggest to date.

I may be biased but I do believe this phenomena is growing and growing year by year. Would love to hear why you think this is so?
